NEW BELIEVERS SUNDAY – THE NEW CREATION
Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.” 2 Corinthians 5:17
People everywhere go through various experiences in their lives. Experiences affecting the person resulting to good, bad or combination of both. Many of these aspects of life have influenced individual personality and the way each one lives. But there is one experience that affects one’s life intensely and made him a much better person. What is that? After so much guilt and shame for the way we live our lives, even out of control within our ownself. We then realized we wanted to change but it is not according to our own will and power. We thank the Lord as thru the preaching of the gospel, everyone has been reach out by the grace of God, and things were all about to change – the start of a new creation in us.
It was a light and bubbly Sunday afternoon when all brethren of PMCC 4th Watch SG Locale were gathered in the church to celebrate the New Believers Sunday. The event was officiated by the Program Ministry OIC’s , Sis Roma Balbuena and Sis Joy Costa. It suddenly reminds me of “2013 New Believers Sunday” held on the same venue and on the same time, the difference is I am one of them during that time.
It was an afternoon of reflection, recalling and revelation of life changing experiences of all new believers. Tears flow as they talked of their past lives. Laughter shows after overcoming their struggles and a clear face of peace manifested while testifying God’s goodness and grace in each and everyone’s life. Personal testimonies were shared by representatives of each Kawan. All were so inspiring but one strikes me the most. He started his testimony in a short prayer wherein he ask God’s intervention and protection on the experiences that he will share to all.
“ I lived a totally worldly life, as if there is no more tomorrow. I go places to drink and be merry. I don’t care of myself and the people around me as long as I forget the loneliness of working overseas away from family. Every night without fail, I will get myself drunk and enjoy the night with friends till I drop like dead on the street. Because I enjoyed their company as well as drinking so much with them. I am totally unmindful of the time whenever I am with them. Until one day, a lady approached and invited me to attend the church. I ignored her many times but she is so persistent. Every time I saw her , I turned back and try to avoid, but inspite of that she never give up, that every time she sees me, she will definitely invite me. Until finally, I have accepted her invitation. And that day when I attended the church, this lady had made a remarkable touch in my heart that I myself cannot and unable to understand. I have accepted Christ as my Lord and Saviour and was baptised. I started coming back and I noticed that as I hear the words of God it slowly changing me. Then I realized that the joy I have with friends was temporary, yet the joy of serving the Lord is eternal” testified by Bro. Andres Marquez from the Kawan of Jerusalem.
Brethren, indeed that God works in various ways to touch and move our lives and at the end of the day HE is a very big GOD, and has all things under His control. What we must do is “let go and let God.”
1 I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship.
2 Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.
